New New York, Change is Everything.
A home is not a house, as the saying doesn’t quite go. A new generation of technology and creative professionals, for whom professional and personal mobility is the code of their operating system, resets conventional wisdom about rental properties in Manhattan—raising the ceiling on luxury, amenity, and community. With a bold copper-clad architectural design by local favorites SHoP Architects, and a sophisticated landscape design by emerging stars SCAPE that addresses both the natural beauty and stormwater-control necessities of this waterfront site, American Copper is the work of a creative team not so different from its prospective residents. We directed short films in which team members explain futuristic features like a skybridge lap pool—and not so incidentally epitomize the smarts and good humor you’d hope for in your neighbors. By highlighting a forward-looking city-within-a-city complex, nearby waterside parks; new ferry-and-bus transfer points appealing for the bike-to-work crowd; along with new urban life on the water’s edge, we were able to reintroduce the East River as a new center for a New New York City.
